Nearby activities

One of the fantastic things about a National Chess tournament here in the Chicago area is the variety of things to do away from the board. So if you are staying an extra day to explore, or looking for things to do during the evenings, this is place where I would be glad to recommend places.

During the NYA, unfortunately both the Bulls and Blackhawks will be on the road. This is because every November the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus takes over the United Center. Tickets are still available for the circus on the dates on and around the NYA. For those missing out on seeing the Blackhawks, Chicago Wolves hockey is another option. They play at the Allstate Arena (about a 20 minute drive), and the prices as well as the activity is family friendly. The museum campus in Chicago is about 15 miles away and includes the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and Field Museum of Natural History.

For shopping, the Oak Brook mall is just across the street. There are great options and variety for restaurants in the area, and I am a bit of a foodie, so definitely drop me a line for some personal favorites in the area.

Looking forward to seeing everyone here.

Just over 3 weeks away

Hello Everyone,

I will be starting to post information every couple of days or so from now to the tournament on the blog from this point forward, so please check back often. I will be blogging on tournament and hotel updates, restaurants and activities in the area, and anything else I can think of. If you have questions, please feel free to email me or post here on the blog, and I will get back to you.

Of note, our room block with the hotel is expiring soon, so definitely get your room reservations in to take advantage of the fantastic $89 rate we are getting. If you have problems getting a room, please contact me. I will be very glad to help work with the hotel and beyond to find you a room.

At this point, we have in the neighborhood of 250 entries, with about half being from out of state. If I had to project a total, I would say we will wind up with about 500 entries, which would be the highest amount for this event in the last 5 years. If you have registered, and do not see your name on the list, please contact us. There are some additional entries that have not yet been posted due to membership issues or missing information to be resolved.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Oak Brook in a few weeks.

Glenn
